Join us for the Great Sarkandaugava Clean-Up on Saturday, 27 April at 10:00, opposite the entrance to the Psychoneurological Hospital on the other side of the street, bringing rakes and other tools (pliers, small hand saws etc.)! Participants will be provided with work gloves.
The clean-up will take place along the banks of the old Sarkandaugava river channel, starting from Sarkandaugava Bridge along Tvaika iela. This is a beautiful but particularly polluted spot in the neighbourhood. During the clean-up it is planned to tidy the area along the water, collect litter, and thin out overgrown bushes that obscure the view of the water. Meanwhile on Tvaika iela near the bus stop, an experimental garden will be created, planted with annual and perennial plants - wheat, lupins and sunflowers - which have unique properties for purifying contaminated soil.
It was summer. The local natives, with good intentions, arranged the most ecological food possible for the gentleman from distant Germany: sourced farm milk and butter, dug up potatoes from the garden. "What is this?" - came a question full of despair, after the first bite.
We arrived in Florence, or Firenze as it appears on road signs, on a warm and sunny day. Despite the fact that it was already the last days of October, one could easily manage without a coat. As with any place, Florence has its own traditions and superstitions. One of them is rubbing the snout of the bronze pig.
Nowadays there are plenty of options to buy or order photo canvases with your favourite photograph. In fact you can make such a photo canvas at home yourself, by manually transferring your chosen photograph onto fabric. Below: how to do it, and some of my finished pieces.
Emperor penguins (let us assume these are the same Godmanis penguins) tend to make a solemn entrance. They approach a stranger with a slightly nonchalant air. They stop at a respectable distance, regardless of whether it is a person or a dog.
With spring cleaning under way, it's time to clean the computer keyboard too. The main causes of keyboard dirt are dust (which is mostly dead skin), stuck-on grime and spilled liquids of various types (and sweetness levels).
Continuing the mood board, or atmosphere collage, theme, I was struck by an idea and inspiration to play and clothe in visual images the days, places, and moments that call for... authenticity. Anthracite expresses a person's truthfulness, deep within, and sometimes - looking you straight in the eyes - on the outside. "I love you in the darkness of anthracite / And in the rain-wept windows of happiness, / And now - not with the first love - / With the last, beyond which there is nothing."
If in winter the only liberty drivers allowed themselves was failing to indicate when turning, then with the arrival of what is now the second spring - because when the first one arrived, no one quite managed to "get into the groove" - driving in the oncoming lane, over pedestrian crossings and around blind bends is practically an everyday occurrence.
A mood board, or atmosphere collage, is a way for artists, designers, interior designers, or stylists to create an impression of an upcoming final product, work, or look. When creating an atmosphere collage, the main question is what should be there and what should not. This time - an atmosphere collage for a summer house by the sea.
