We visited the fashion historian Alexander Vasilyev's collection exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design. The exhibition is dedicated to fashion from the late 19th and early 20th century. Here one can truly feast one's eyes and gain a certain insight into the social history of that era.
We strolled briskly along the harbour promenade, viewing and photographing the exhibited cows - among them a storm cow, a police cow, a golden cow, a herb cow, a light cow, and others. At the evening concert in Reņķis Garden, the sound and performance were up to the mark - a pleasure to listen to. Almost all the most popular old Dire Straits songs were performed.
Cancer does not strive too hard to grow up. What matters to them is satisfying only the most basic needs. For the most part they wait for fate itself to offer some opportunity and show them what to do.
Today we visited the publishing house Zvaigzne ABC in a reconstructed wooden building - the former studio of architect L. Šmits on Biķernieku Street - and also went on a tour of the adjacent printing house Poligrāfists. We had the opportunity to peek into the spacious warehouse rooms, filled to the ceiling with bales of books, as well as the workshops. Followed by conversations about and around books - already published ones, forthcoming ones, and planned ones.
When talking about oil, one often hears - oil is black gold. Evidently, not only oil extraction but also its transshipment by companies in the Riga Free Port has for decades allowed them, to put it mildly, to "thumb their noses" at environmental requirements and local residents.
Yesterday, 13 June, I attended a fantastic concert at the Riga Congress Hall, where New York Voices leader and Grammy Award winner - the world-famous Peter Eldridge - performed together with Latvian vocal group Framest. A small photo and video glimpse of the concert.
What could serve better as a greeting at the summer solstice celebrations than the old good Latvian folk song. Here are gathered folk songs expressing wishes of abundance, prosperity, good fortune and harmony.
Ventspils is not only the tidiest city in Latvia, but also the richest in various art projects. This summer too, on 30 June, Ventspils residents and visitors will be delighted by the world's most popular art and patronage project "Cow Parade Ventspils 2012". Its opening will take place at 12:00 on the Ventspils Harbour Street promenade. On the opening day of "Cow Parade Ventspils 2012" various activities will take place throughout the day, and the extensive programme will close with a concert by the band "The Straits" (United Kingdom) in Reņķa dārzs.
A brief glimpse of a few events at "Museum Night 2012". This year we visited five locations in Riga, also stopping en route at the excellent Georgian wine bar Winiveria in the Quiet Centre (which on this night had transformed into the Noisy Centre) - highly recommended!
