Social Media for Business: The Best Times to Post on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Google+

The question of how to reach your target audience most precisely and effectively has always occupied the minds of internet marketing specialists - the greatest result with the fewest resources. So I decided to compile information I had read and heard from various sources about the best, most productive times for posting images, updates, and news on each social network.

For building professional contacts, promoting products and services, and driving visitors to your main resource (website), the five social networks that work best right now are, in my view, exactly these: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Google+. These are the ones I actively use to promote my own internet projects.

The question of how to reach your target audience most precisely and effectively has always occupied the minds of internet marketing specialists - the greatest result with the fewest resources (here meaning primarily time). So I decided to compile information I had read and heard from various sources about the best, most productive times for posting images, updates, and news on each social network.

This is really a cheat sheet for myself, since absorbed in daily work I don't always manage to follow these patterns. If I'm honest, the time that subjectively suits me best for sharing something on social media is around 23:00 or midnight. But is that objectively the most effective time? Of course not.

Facebook

Research shows that the number of posts on Facebook should be twice a day. The most effective days are Thursday and Friday - based on the principle: the less a person wants to concentrate on work, the more they sit on Facebook!

The best time is 13:00–16:00, with 13:00 being particularly favourable - when a post generates the most shares - and 15:00, when the highest percentage of clicks on posts or links occurs. Other sources cite Wednesday at 15:00 as the peak time in terms of user traffic.

The least effective time for posts is from 20:00 to 08:00 the following day, particularly on weekends.

Twitter

The best days for B2B communication on Twitter are Monday to Friday; for B2C communication, Wednesday to Sunday. Three posts per day is the optimal number.

The highest CTR (click-through rate) is at 12:00 and 18:00, while the greatest number of retweets occurs at 17:00. Some sources cite the period from Tuesday to Thursday, 09:00 to 15:00, as the peak time in terms of user traffic.

The least effective time is every day after 20:00 and on Fridays after 15:00.

LinkedIn

For building and maintaining business contacts, the most effective days are 3 weekdays from Tuesday to Thursday. The network is focused on B2B communication, so the best times coincide closely with working hours, which in Latvia fall between 08:00 and 18:00.

The time for checking invitations and the latest news coincides with the time and frequency at which managers check their email - from 07:00 to 09:00 and from 17:00 to 18:00. The latter is particularly highlighted in some sources as the most active time (peak hours).

The least effective time during the working week is Mondays and Fridays from 22:00 to 06:00.

Pinterest

A social network that requires special activity, as communication takes place mainly through compelling images and product links - at least five images per day. The best day is Saturday.

The most effective time is from 14:00 to 16:00 and from 20:00 to 23:00; the least effective is from 17:00 to 19:00.

Google+

Optimally three activities, and specifically on weekdays from Monday to Friday.

The most effective time is from 09:00 to 11:00; the least effective is from 18:00 to 08:00.
