Bar, Restaurant and Café Finder barradar.lv
I frequently use barradar.lv - both the web and mobile versions - and am eagerly awaiting the app, because it's a great tool for finding a suitable eating spot nearby to satisfy your appetite. For example, sitting in the office around lunchtime, you can check the barradar.lv map to see which cafés or eateries are within a couple of blocks and whether they have a set lunch deal for around Ls2. On a Friday late evening wandering around the Old Town with friends, barradar.lv is handy for checking which bars or cafés are currently open - just select the "open now" option. There was a time when we drove into Talsi in summer (a city I barely know, having been there maybe twice in my life), and I pulled out my smartphone to find somewhere to eat using barradar.lv. Since we most often go somewhere by car at weekends, an important sorting criterion is whether free parking is available near the eatery in question. I like that the search filters are updated seasonally - in summer you could find where to enjoy a Mojito or taste cold strawberry soup, and now in winter, where to have a mulled wine.

The articles section also has many engaging reads for food lovers - for example, on choosing an eatery to match an occasion, table manners, WiFi availability, or colour psychology in dining venues, as well as party ideas, information about wine or beer festivals, and quizzes. It's actually good that this isn't just another recipe portal, but a place where you can find interesting information about eating out.
Every month barradar.lv compiles a TOP of the most visited dining spots, which is always interesting to check. Following on Twitter you can find out about newly opened dining venues in Riga. That's how I discovered the restaurant "Ginger" a while back - where I now go regularly - as well as the very recently opened restaurant "MIO".

On each venue's profile on Barradar.lv you can read what other visitors think of the place (comments from Foursquare and Tripadvisor are constantly added) or see what offers the venue has posted on its Facebook and Twitter social media profiles. Using green cup icons you can leave a rating for the food, service and atmosphere of a specific place.
In short, I use it and recommend it to others - www.barradar.lv! ;)
