Homemade Brooch - a Flower
Today the inspiration struck to make a flower that could be pinned to an outfit and bring it to life, giving it a little "raisin". I will share a now tried-and-tested recipe for how to create a unique accessory from simple materials - a delicate flower brooch.
Today the inspiration struck to make a flower that could be pinned to an outfit and bring it to life, giving it a little "raisin". I will share a now tried-and-tested recipe for how to create a unique accessory from simple materials - a delicate flower brooch.
Required:
- organza fabric;
- fine thread in a matching colour;
- a beading needle;
- beads or a string of pearls;
- a brooch pin;
- scissors;
- a burning candle.

I chose cornflower-blue organza - a popular curtain fabric - and cut 9–10 circles of various sizes from it for each flower. Then I singed the edges of each circle over a candle flame; they curled slightly and bent to one side, and singeing also protected the fabric from fraying. Then using blue thread I sewed each singed circle together at the centre, one on top of the other, starting from the largest to the smallest.
Next came decorating the centre. For the first flower I sewed golden-yellow beads into the middle using a beading needle. For the second flower - a coiled string of pearls. Additionally, I painted the edges of the second flower with bronze metallic paint using a fine brush. Finally, I sewed a brooch pin to the back of each flower using thread of the same colour. Now have a look at what I came up with!
