It has come about that I have been a witness and companion to three different vision correction operations. The most recent case - a cataract - did not go without its curiosities, which also served as the reason for writing this article.

Bring comfortable clothing (trousers or a long skirt, a fitted top) and shoes with a stable 4–5 cm heel, as well as plenty of patience and determination.
The book emphasises throughout that developing correct diction must be attended to from earliest childhood - neither rushing the child's voice development process nor encouraging the adoption of incorrect pronunciation patterns. With adults it is harder, as we do not need to learn to speak anew, but rather to break speech habits formed over years. And oh, how difficult that is!
The environment we create around ourselves can tell us a great deal. Whether we like it or not, we unconsciously shape the space around us in our own image and likeness. It is sometimes good to tear your eyes away from the work computer monitor and cast a glance over your desk.
I am talking about a recipe as a Christmas gift - a recipe as a picture on the kitchen wall. If there is a particularly beloved dish that gets made fairly often and has become a favourite with family members or guests, it can be framed and hung in the kitchen. A recipe presented this way becomes both a part of the kitchen's interior décor and an original gift.

In Riga from 2 December to 15 January you can walk the Christmas Tree Trail. This year there are 42 trees to see, starting from the first, main tree in Dome Square - the "Romantic Tree" - and ending with the "Dragon Guardian Tree" outside Bolderāja Music and Art School.
