Flash to HTML5: An Experiment

Flash to HTML5: An Experiment(3)

The popularity of iPhone and Apple's principled non-support of Flash on these devices has brought web developers close to a process that could be called the search for the Holy Grail. Adobe itself is also taking small steps in this direction.

Carnival in Venice

Carnival in Venice

These world-famous, centuries-old festivities were held this year from 26 February to 8 March. Eyewitnesses say everything unfolded just as splendidly and pompously - only the weather conditions were less than ideal: damp and rainy. Photos from this year's carnival.

8 March - Women's Day

8 March - Women's Day

Today I want to receive freshly bloomed tulips. And you? Conventional. Perhaps. But spring-darling. Look, I even invented a new word! I wish to greet all women, ladies, dames, wonderful girls, gals, babes, sisters, mothers, grandmothers, colleagues, teachers and unknown passers-by on this day and invite everyone to savour every beautiful moment of life that lies ahead of us! TautasSkaitisana.lv Hacked?

TautasSkaitisana.lv Hacked?

Recalling the troubles with NEO (Ilmārs Poikāns), who not so long ago, possibly without intending to, managed to obtain possibly very important data from a possibly not very well-protected information system (EDS, presumably), someone older or non-IT-related might get goosebumps seeing this.

Have You Been Counted Yet?

Have You Been Counted Yet?

Yesterday we logged in via internet banking to provide information about the persons in our household. One question on the form is so convoluted that you cannot help but read it a second time. The evening included: soldiers' songs, the appearance of the film crew, a moment of silence in memory of those who have passed, a glimpse into the making of the film, and the film itself. I was glad that the events depicted and the characters were not idealised.

The fact that there are many pensioners in Latvia - yes, that is a fact. 570 thousand. Only the solutions offered by experts and the government - cutting pensions, mass procreation and other nonsense - are and remain nonsense that does not solve the problem but merely defers it to future generations.

Sicilian Wines

Sicilian Wines

This month we are fans of Sicily, as it is one of those places on the world map where one would someday love to go. Initially, hearing the word Sicily, one associates it with the mafia, the Corleone surname, the constantly active volcano Etna, sunshine, and the sea. But one wants not only to see Sicily but also to taste it - which is why this is specifically about Sicilian wines. They brought new discoveries and even falling in love with one wine that comes from the very foot of the Etna volcano.

Men's Days and February 23rd

Men's Days and February 23rd

Well, ladies, let us glue cardboard tanks and line up tin soldiers - today is Men's Day. It became established in Latvia since... Soviet times. I looked into the world's experience of celebrating Men's Day. It turned out that men actually have 3 Men's Days, unlike us women, who have been allocated only March 8th.

Homemade Vintage Labels

Homemade Vintage Labels(1)

This time we are making labels - decorative cards with an aged effect. An interesting accent for gifts, and also practically useful on jam jars, spice containers or tea caddies.
