A truth known to all - habit has great power. Is it good or bad to be ruled by everyday habits, or should they be noticed and disrupted from time to time? Habit is in reality a liberation from the decisions that would otherwise have to be made constantly. It is only because a large part of life runs on its own without any deliberation that forces are freed to engage intensively with the unfamiliar.
The last time I chose two books - the first by flicking through it and understanding from a few text fragments that it would be quite engaging; the second feeling intrigued both by the blurb on the back cover and by the fact that the book could not be opened - it was wrapped in cellophane. This brought to mind the thought to observe how people actually choose books to read.
Cosy, soft, comfortable, luxurious and refined, warming or cooling to the feet, worn-out or carefully stored only for special guests - everyone has their own beloved house slippers. At home I currently wear a pair crocheted by my mother. Yet I have always been fascinated by Victorian ladies' slippers on an elegant little heel with a vintage rose pattern. In different eras they have served both as practical footwear and as a symbol and part of rituals. So what is the history of house slippers?

In my view, the mountain views are especially superb when mist lies in the valleys.
This Sunday, as a result of a popular-science experiment at Spilve Airfield, it was proven that penguins can fly too. :) Especially with the help of instructor Anatolijs Kupčs and a hang glider from the „Delta" aero club. Tonight - do it yourself, take part, for it's White Night - Contemporary Culture Forum 2010 in Riga. The dominant aftertaste after observing several visual installations and sound and movement performances: rummaging through old junk and one's own subconscious. We managed to visit only three locations - Survival Kit 2 on Miera Street, the VEF complex, and Andrejsala. One thing is clear: art objects are created by the dark and the light demon that lives within the artist. What is inside comes out. Both carry an extraordinarily powerful energy, and both could be felt that night.
From 26 to 29 August, the annual summer camp organised by the flamenco dance studio DUENDE took place in Zvejniekciems, with an opportunity for all studio dancers to gather together and learn from guest teachers - flamenco instructors from Spain. I took the opportunity to attend two days of compas classes with percussionist Andrej Vujicic, as well as tangos and alegrias dance technique with flamenco dancer Francesca Grimm.
If on some evening you feel a craving for something sweet, I have an idea. I figured out how to make a dessert with as few unnecessary calories as possible. The ingredients and preparation are wonderfully simple.
