The Story of a Musical Work

The Story of a Musical Work

The story is about Johann Sebastian Bach's Orchestral Suite in D major, written between 1717 and 1723 for the court of Prince Leopold of the German region of Köthen. During the composer's lifetime the work did not receive the recognition it deserved. It was reborn only in the 19th century, thanks to a German violinist. I offer you a chance to listen to the work performed by violinist Sarah Chang, who in my view very delicately conveys the message of a genius's soul experiences to the listener.

Rimi's Juicy Slippers at an Ambiguous Price

Rimi's Juicy Slippers at an Ambiguous Price

Rimi supermarkets are quite a pleasant shopping destination, compared to a good many other stores that would do well to seriously think about cleanliness and customer service culture. But this time I was confused by the dual pricing on offer, which from a distance was more enticing than when one got closer and looked more carefully.

Raimonds Ozols Concert at Dzintari

Raimonds Ozols Concert at Dzintari

Literally just an hour ago we returned from a damp, now autumnal Jūrmala, where an evening concert "Enter My World" by Raimonds Ozols, concertmaster of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, took place at Dzintari Concert Hall. It drew a full audience, including the President with his wife. The concert consisted of two parts: the first lyrical and calm, the second dynamic, magnificent, and varied.

Why Do People Not Reply to Emails?

Why Do People Not Reply to Emails?

I am not saying everyone, but many people, upon receiving an electronic letter, do not reply. I am talking here about letters specifically addressed to someone, with a greeting, a question, or an invitation. Sometimes it becomes so irritating. You sit and wonder whether the letter even reached the recipient.

Massage – For Body Pleasure and Health

Massage – For Body Pleasure and Health

I recommend finding the time and resources to get a therapeutic massage. It's worth both of those things, which are in short supply these days. To put it quite like a brochure - in an age of rush and sedentary lifestyle, more and more people suffer from a lack of touch, which contributes to depression, posture problems, reduced productivity and weight gain. We compensate for this lack of touch by seeking new impressions online and by eating. Feeling considerable stiffness from constant time at the computer and all the consequences that come with it, I headed to a massage salon.

1st Herb Festival in Ķekava

1st Herb Festival in Ķekava

There were many fragrances here - aromatic herbs dried and sewn into beautiful linen sachets to be placed among clothes so they acquire a pleasant scent and repel moths. Especially pleasant were the lavender pouches, additionally embroidered with images of the herb's flowers found inside. Various teas packaged in attractive little bags. Each vendor knew how to explain the composition, and which teas are best suited for what purpose.

A Glimpse of the Riga City Festival

A Glimpse of the Riga City Festival

Although the festival events took place in several locations in central Riga, we spent our time along the 11 November Embankment. There, of course, the main attention was concentrated around the vintage vehicles. Everyone (myself included) considered it a matter of honour to be photographed beside one of the retro cars. All were in good technical condition, polished and ready to hit the road.

The Enterprise Register and the Courts Don't Understand Latgalian :)

An article appeared on Delfi in which the association "Latgalīšu volūdys centris" received a rejection both from the Enterprise Register and the Administrative District Court (interesting - which one? Surely not the one based in Latgale), because the documents were composed and submitted in the Latgalian language. With that, of course, things did not stop, and an appeal was submitted to the Supreme Court.

A Car for Joy and Inspiration: New Beetle

There are cars you admire, there are cars you turn to look at, there are cars made for everyday use and functionality that go unnoticed yet make up the main flow along the arteries of city life - but this model by the German company Volkswagen will always raise a smile and lift the spirits.
