Why Do People Not Reply to Emails?

I am not saying everyone, but many people, upon receiving an electronic letter, do not reply. I am talking here about letters specifically addressed to someone, with a greeting, a question, or an invitation. Sometimes it becomes so irritating. You sit and wonder whether the letter even reached the recipient.

I am not saying everyone, but many people, upon receiving an electronic letter, do not reply. I am talking here about letters specifically addressed to someone, with a greeting, a question, or an invitation. Sometimes it becomes so irritating. It is entirely understandable that not all questions asked are expected, pleasant, or worthy of attention. Nevertheless, I believe that any question can be answered - briefly or at length and exhaustively, directly or evasively, manually or automatically - but it is still a response. Even if just: "Thank you, your letter has been received!" Otherwise you sit and wonder whether it even reached the recipient.

In daily work I receive around a hundred letters every day, including spam which I delete immediately, but I reply to the rest. I feel a certain sense of responsibility towards the writer and do not wish them to feel as foolish as I sometimes do when there is not even a bare "thank you" in return. I have also received several letters to the email address listed on the iinuu.lv website, requesting some information, a comment, or asking me to forward some photos from an event. I am very grateful for these and am happy to learn what interests readers of the website.

However, there was one occasion when the organisers of an event wrote to me requesting that iinuu.lv also post information about the guest artist. Since the event seemed to me engaging and interesting, I did so, supplementing it with video material and links. (It should be noted immediately that iinuu.lv does not publish any paid advertorials - only recommendations about things I have personally experienced and found to be good.) When I sent a reply letter and some questions about the event, it turned out I was no longer even worthy of a response. Well, it is sad that communication flows only one way.

I thoroughly disapprove of the chain letters being forwarded around, which have now spread like a plague on the draugiem.lv portal. Do not expect any reaction to those, because I am annoyed by people's superstition regarding the notes - "forward this letter to 30 more people and luck will enter your home". Come on, dear people, come back down to earth!

However, the question remains open - why do people not reply to letters? And don't just say you are so busy you have no time. I know very well that this is the most universal answer when one simply does not want to do something out of sheer laziness.
