The Film "Sans laisser de traces" (2010)

Another good film watched, which I want to recommend to iinuu.lv readers. It is a 2010 French-Belgian co-production "Sans laisser de trace" (in English "Traceless", in Russian "Без улик").

The film's central insight: every person has three keys that open the doors to success. They are talent, work and luck. You can develop your talent, work day and night, but if all of that is not accompanied by luck, nothing good will come of it. Diligence will not help you.

The story's main character, Étienne, is a successful manager about to take the director-general's chair at his company. He has a loving wife who is also the daughter of the company's current director. He has a wonderful apartment in the city's best neighbourhood with enormous windows offering a view of the city that lies at his feet; a luxury car; savings in a bank account that ensure a prosperous and stable life. But... for several years in a row, every night Étienne is beset by pangs of conscience over the fact that at the very beginning of his career he stole a brilliant idea from an unrecognised scientist, and thereby gained everything that now belongs to him.

The agony of conscience reaches its culmination when Étienne accidentally runs into his former classmate Patrick on the street and decides to reveal his secret to him. Mistakes and misfortunes follow one upon another until Étienne is nearly brought to the brink of prison and the loss of his wife and job. Only luck - a completely accidental and unplanned occurrence - saves Étienne from losing everything just before his own "fall."
