PROPELLER ISLAND Project - the Unique Hotel CITY LODGE
German artist Lars Stroschen, who uses "an island with a propeller" as his pseudonym, has created a peculiar yet functional art object for the delight of Berliners and visitors to Berlin - the hotel CITY LODGE. Each room here has its own concept, its own name and a one-of-a-kind original décor. The hotel leaves a surreal impression on its visitors - how else could one perceive a bed floating in the middle of the room, furniture placed on the ceiling, sleeping quarters in the shape of a coffin, and so on and so forth.

Here is a brief glimpse into some of the rentable rooms of the hotel CITY LODGE.

The walls of the "Symbol Room" are composed of black-and-white painted wooden panel squares depicting various symbols. Here one is certainly prompted to reflect on signs and their symbolism and how it influences our lives. And there is plenty of material for reflection - a total of 300 signs are displayed.
The upside-down room "Upside Down", where one is supposed to sleep comfortably in ceiling niches, since all the furniture is placed on the ceiling. The only four-person room in the hotel.

In the "Gruft" room one can sleep in the coffins placed there or in the labyrinth below. A room for those who cannot wait for the moment they can lie down in a softly upholstered wooden box. The hotel brochure offers the option of sleeping with the coffin lid both closed and open. :)
A room with all amenities - "Padded Cell" - lined from top to bottom in green leather. Here one can hear not only one's breathing but also one's own heartbeat.

The "Space-Cube" room - bright blue light, a balcony and a peculiar bed mechanism. Shall we sleep together or in separate beds? - such a decision can be made at the very last moment, and by activating the mechanism, a guillotine-like blade will split the bed in two.
The "Wrapped" room resembles catacombs more than anything else. The walls here lean each in their own direction.

"Flying Bed" - a room with a slanted built-in floor that creates the effect of a grandmother's-era bed levitating in the air.
The name of the "Freedom" room is perhaps expressed by the artistic hole in the wall. The central idea is escaping from the room, which is fitted out like a prisoner's cell, only using cheerful yellow tones in combination with brown. Crawling through the hole leads out onto a balcony with an umbrella.
These are just 8 of the 45 rooms. So then - which shall we choose? Interested parties are welcome at Paulsborner Str. 10, 10709 Berlin :)
