Built into our biology is faith - the human is homo credulus. Therefore, when speaking of homeopathy, one must distinguish the effect from the explanation. Until the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, even traditional medicine was based on faith - methods such as bloodletting, treatment with mercury, and the like were applied. On the way to the bus, Klāvs was sniffling badly, coughing and feeling unwell, complaining that his "bones were aching". At the stop there was a pharmacy. We go in, and the kids immediately attach themselves to the junk mail stand. I take a look. Some kind of zombie stuff about flu symptoms.
- Dad, can we take some?
- No, son. We don't bring charlatan texts into our family. Save them for the gullible.
Pharmacist: - I am at your service!
- There are four of us in the family, and the rest of us haven't yet caught this "bone aching" thing. Can you give us something for prevention? Something for immunity or whatever you have.
- Plaster, fixing bandages.
- Ok. Give me the plaster!
It was only at home that the revelation came - that I had been fooled by someone who, before standing behind a glass counter in a white coat, must have spent at least six years at university. I read the composition - but it's just calcium?!
And then P. Apinis (president of the Latvian Medical Association) stepped onto the stage [3]: "With homeopathic methods you cannot operate on a gallbladder, pull a tooth or transplant a hip." It is terrible that pharmacies do not sell tablets with which - something so important to the practical Latvian - one could do this at home and, most importantly, ONESELF! Where is the health minister looking?!
Allergy
The morning starts as usual. With a cup of coffee, homeopathic, pff! - hot cheese toasts and a Twitter news digest. GoogleFacts writes [4]: according to the National Institutes of Health, more than half (!) of Americans suffer from allergies. Shocking! American scientists have, after all, discovered that an excellent remedy for depression and attention deficit syndrome is tablets with the "active substance" - Prozac. American scientists have most certainly also invented tablets for allergies. A couple of kilograms of tablets per day and twice as many to reduce the side effects thus created would most certainly make these people happy. Happy! Why is B. Obama doing nothing?!
