Defective People in a Defective Society
"Defective" people would not be anything special if only this portion of society were not so impressively large, and if their existence were not based on living off benefits and parasitising at the expense of the rest of society in socially acceptable and unacceptable forms. What is this defective society?
It so happens that I have grown up in an era when the values that were accepted as such included: love of work, industriousness, diligence, harmony, family values, and mutual respect. Society's ideal was a person with inexhaustible energy, outstanding intellectual abilities, and erudition. Unfortunately, harsh reality introduced certain corrections to such views and, as it turned out, success and recognition can also be achieved by people not particularly gifted with intellect, as long as they have sufficient courage and shamelessness.
But there is also a third group - those who are not gifted with any special talents, nor do they have courage and shamelessness. Naïve in spirit and outlook, but nonetheless people, members of society, voters, who have the same desire to live under one sun and to multiply. Although for a long time this portion of society lived somewhere "out there", recently one hears them mentioned more and more often either in politicians' and ministers' speeches, or in the absolutely disinterested research of parties such as those sponsored by George Soros. As if it were nothing special - if only this portion of society were not so impressively large, and if their existence were not based on living off benefits and welfare, in other words, parasitising at the expense of the rest of society.
Talents and Intellectual Abilities.
Have you ever encountered a task in solving which it seems one head is "not enough"? So many variables, facts, and information, so much to read and put together to produce a result. A familiar feeling? However, part of society has never encountered anything of the sort. At the same time, society admires financial schemers, market analysts, doctors, or equally gifted specialists in their field, about whom one might say - how could anyone have thought of that?! Well, some can! But a large part, even a very large part - cannot. And not because they do not want to, but because they are genetically missing a few cogs to be able to do so.
The Bible mentions "talents" - spiritual or physical gifts with which God has endowed only certain people. Others may aspire and pray for such talents, or even imagine that they possess them, but as a result, the abilities acquired through bitter effort will only stand out by a negligible degree against the general background. By talents one should understand a truly God-given gift, based on immeasurable motivation and energy, the ability to perceive cause-and-effect relationships at an intuitive level. But surely that can be learned? Yes, it can, but the ability to learn, to remember (memorize, запомнить) and most importantly to be able to recall at the needed moment (recall, вспомнить) is also a talent, because humans tend to forget what they have learned over time.
One should not confuse people endowed with talents with freeloaders. The latter may truly get lucky with one, two, perhaps countless deals, but it is clear to everyone that an untalented person sitting down at a piano will not be able to randomly hit keys for long in such a way as to produce an aurally pleasant melody.
Science accepts the view that the presence or absence of such talents is determined by genes. Less scientifically - by the surrounding environment, for example, drinking water. The saddest thing in this story is that people who are gifted with talents do not grasp this and condemn those who do not have such talents.
The Defective.
To discover a talent within oneself, one must devote considerable time to intellectual or physical pursuits. As this is neither fun nor interesting, part of society considers it a burden and chooses the simpler path - resigning themselves to the role of society's stepchild. The surrounding society and environment also play an impressive role. Nevertheless, a large portion of society exists who can only perform simple tasks - the so-called "normal" people, or the "defectives". In the course of evolution, these "normal" people have degraded to such an extent that few can now take care of themselves, feed themselves without the help of others. Give us work! No, darlings, it is not work you need - you need means of subsistence. And for that, both simple, low-skilled work and welfare benefits will do. As it turns out, the ability to concentrate is also a talent. Unfortunately, low-skilled work, work with a high (inattentiveness) error rate, is no longer in demand. What remains - welfare benefits.
There are many such people, "defectives", and their numbers are growing, and most likely that is precisely why in recent years there has been a tendency to talk about them. Unlike animals, which if they cannot provide for themselves perish, people beg to take from those who have - in socially acceptable (welfare) or unacceptable (criminal) forms. Conspiracy theories suggest that food supply will in time come under the control of large corporations, and to access it one will need to be endowed with some talent. A large part of the "normal" population is not so gifted. However unwelcome this may be, the future belongs to genetics. And it is entirely possible that in future, if a family wishes to have offspring, these will be able to be configured with whatever talents the global government at that point determines, or else it will only be permitted to give birth if the presence of some talent has been genetically confirmed. The planet cannot sustain this many people - rather, this many "defectives" who, in their foolishness, squander natural resources merely to satisfy their ever-growing desires.
The Golden Billion?
Seven billion people live on the planet. USA - 310 million, Canada - 34 million, Australia - 22 million, EU - 500 million, Japan - 127 million, China - 1.3 billion, India - 1.17 billion.
The theory of the "golden billion" was first raised at a Club of Rome meeting in the middle of the last century. The basic idea of the theory is that with the growing population and the resulting increase in national and social conflicts, nation states will no longer be able to cope with it all and will ask (the UN?) to establish a world government, which will "quietly" reduce the population. In the view of Russian scientist Sergei Kara-Murza (born 1939), the golden (population) billion consumes the largest share of the planet's resources. If even half of the planet's population begins to consume the same volume of resources, there will evidently begin to be a shortage. Although equal rights are given to everyone, only a few are given such opportunities. Thus, only one in seven is fit!
