Disco Night 80², Cēsis

Today it's like in that old song - "Bones aching every day, bones, oh, oh, can't take it anymore." Last night in Cēsis, at Vienības Square, thanks to the initiative and organisational efforts of L Tips Ltd., the disco music of the 80s and 90s rang out. Like a refreshing balm for the soul of the thirty-somethings!
It all started like this. At some late evening hour (almost midnight), a phone rang. It turned out that our well-known friend had found something massive online - Disco Night in Cēsis. And not 80s, but 90s, which is more or less our youth and university days.
We almost managed to buy our tickets in time at 12 Ls each and on the fateful day (evening) headed towards Cēsis along the E77. It should be noted that we hadn't specifically been to Cēsis before, so our grasp of what and how things are there was rather weak. We met up at Bērzkrogs. Good lord, where are those times when you could have a drink for under two lats.

We found Vienības Square in Cēsis quickly enough. During the day, as it turned out later, there had been a rally in the town itself. It must be said that by evening there was absolutely no trace of it. Except perhaps for the occasional Subaru and tuned car we noticed driving past.
Once inside, Fredis and Ufo were already going wild, showering compliments on the audience and on Cēsis City Council, and urging the crowd to start moving. Is there anyone here who isn't dancing yet? I had somewhat forgotten that Fredis had at one point also been a DJ and that back in the day there had been a club at Ķīpsala called Robinsoni. And what I hadn't known at all was that there was such a thing as L Tips Ltd.

First up on stage was Loona with her good old compositions in Latin rhythms - for instance "Bailando" and others, danced to in clubs during university days.
bailando, bailando
amigos, adios, adios, el silencio loco
bailando, bailando
amigos, adios, adios, el silencio loco
si senor, effectos esspeciales (yeah, yeah, yeah)
si senor, una tentation (yeah, yeah, yeah)
tu y yo a la fiesta
tu y yoooo, toda la noche
tu y yo a la fiesta
tu y yoooo, ooooh

From the stage came compliments about the lovely audience and the beautiful country, which Loona promised she would definitely write about on her website - http://www.loona.com/
A sort of intermission was filled by DJ Roberts Lejasmeijers. This honoured gentleman hasn't come up with anything particularly new, but mixed it seriously well. Apparently there's even an album. I liked it. Bobbing along and listening, I thought I'd listen to his mixes again, but in a somewhat calmer atmosphere.
Then followed Vengaboys with their popular hits "We Like To Party", "We're Going To Ibiza", "Up and Down". More to read here: http://www.diskonakts.lv/web/?p=133
Oh yes, and then - No Mercy. Back in university days these artists struck me as total rubbish, despite the fact that their music was quite popular in clubs. But now! Whether we're getting older and more mature or what, but it's actually not bad at all. Violin and disco in combination - super!

I even allowed myself to film them a little.
Next up on stage - Hermes House Band. A group I'd barely heard of, though the songs have been heard somewhere. Whether I'd listen to them out of my own free will - I don't know, but a live performance is a live performance.
We didn't make it to Captain Jack. Sorry. We wandered around Vienības Square a bit more and headed home. The sky clear and light - the shortest night of the year is drawing near after all.
In the middle of the night, when the event had well and truly warmed up, we noticed an elderly couple - around 70 years old. I don't know if they were locals or not, but they added their own little touch. It goes without saying that when we shuffled off with stiff legs, arms, and torsos, they were still staying on.
