Home Style: Kitchen

The place where homemakers spend much time preparing meals - that is the traditional purpose of the kitchen. I must admit I am not among the sworn housewives whose core principle would be the three K's - Kinder, Küche, Kirche (children, kitchen, church). I cook when inspiration strikes. In any case, ideally a kitchen should be equipped with every possible appliance that makes the cooking process easier and faster.

The place where homemakers spend much time preparing meals - that is the traditional purpose of the kitchen. I must admit I am not among the sworn housewives whose core principle would be the three K's - Kinder, Küche, Kirche (children, kitchen, church). I cook when inspiration strikes, and so that food is not only a treat for the taste buds but also a visual pleasure - I serve on large colourful ceramic plates with greens and colourful vegetables, for example yellow and red peppers.

In any case, ideally a kitchen should be equipped with every possible appliance that makes the cooking process easier and faster - a large, capacious refrigerator, an oven, a microwave, a coffee machine, a food processor, a blender, a grinder, etc.

Since the kitchen renovation is on the future to-do list, it's worth drawing inspiration from the various interiors offered by designers - http://www.livingetc.com/. Of course, again one must account for the relatively small floor area and the need to economise on it at every turn. Clutter does not work.

Ideally, the dining room would be adjacent to the kitchen, not separated by dedicated walls, while an extractor hood and good ventilation would protect the air from steam and unwanted smells.

Browsing through designs, the country style is still the closest to my heart - with natural wood as an indispensable element, porcelain or ceramic dishes (definitely not plastic), bunches of herbs, wooden spoons, and a wooden pepper grinder. And amid it all, the metallic gleam of good built-in kitchen appliances.

Light is important. We are lucky that the kitchen faces east, where in spring and summer the morning coffee can be enjoyed together with the sun's rays. Although feng shui recommends placing the kitchen on the north side.

Traditional kitchen elements - herbs on the windowsill, fruit or vegetables in a basket, a clock on the wall, a radio or mini TV screen, the smell of coffee, a solid wooden chopping board, a knife set, a spice corner.

The kitchen is not only a place for cooking or enjoying food, but also for chatting with a girlfriend.
