Yesterday, e.g., last year we wandered around the city centre a few hours till New Year to enjoy the media renoned 480 thousand lats worth of decorative lighting. Beautiful! Lamp strings in tree branches, over the streets, above, as well as below bridges, giant snowmen, fairs in Old Town squares, the smell of mulled wine (even though the hot balsamic drink tasted quite good) and full moon in the sky. Most visitors seemed to gather in Vermana Garden with richly illuminated trees and the Opera Square with colourful scenes of the festival, projected on the façade of the Opera House.
