The blessing of food products also frequently defies any common sense, and from the symbolic meaning of blessing eggs and bread has long since grown into something more, because everything is stretched to the limit - kilograms of salt, rolled meat loaves, head cheese, dozens of eggs, sweets, and spirits. Never mind that the last item was acquired by rather dubious means. God will forgive everything. And will forgive indeed, if only the person is strong in spirit.
Without delving into the history of democracy's development and without analysing its advantages and shortcomings, but contemplating democracy and capitalism (even such as it is in Latvia), one can very quickly arrive at a break in the thread of thought, followed by - "yes, but...".
Looking at politicians' manoeuvres around questions of occupation and ethnicity, there arose an involuntary impulse to look into history and find out - just how many ethnic Russians are there actually in Latvia? I wish to draw attention to the following statistical data, namely concerning the ethnic composition before and after the Second World War.
One evening I slipped into contemplation on the topic of "spending time usefully". I could not say I had heard such a phrase for the first time, but I had never thought through to the very core about the meaning of this verbal pun, nor about what it truly means to spend time usefully. Usefully for whom? For oneself?

People can be not only intelligent or unintelligent, but also courageous/shy, tidy/untidy, precise/sloppy, punctual/absent-minded, and endowed with other qualities besides. However much one might wish to be assessed as a person, it is precisely as a person that you are assessed. Not your knowledge, education, appearance, or communication skills, but all of these together. Only each employer assigns their own weight to each of these components.
I am from the third generation. And in broad strokes the school system remained the same as for the previous generation. There were very colourful personalities among the teachers, as well as not particularly flattering incidents. For example, the deputy headmistress (зауч), the pioneer leader, and the teachers of Russian, woodwork, and drawing understood nothing of the Latvian language. If this was beneficial for the acquisition of Russian, then in woodwork one often had not the faintest idea what needed to be done and with which tool.
Time is an extraordinarily subjective concept, despite the fact that scientists formulated its definition long ago, the units of measurement, and the moments lived by humanity are counted by the world's most precise atomic clock (which loses no more than 1 second in a million years). It seems as though humans invented time in order to be able to control others and themselves - to condemn and reproach others and themselves for something not having happened at quite the right time.
Expressions of charity can be very diverse. Ranging from selflessly helping to push a vehicle stuck in a snowdrift. To a very complete devotion to serving others. In between, of course, donating larger or smaller sums of money and doing larger or smaller deeds. It is a little harder when it comes to donating one's own time.
Observing the daily rhythm of the "great time managers", one is struck by the fact that unimportant tasks are not simply left undone, but are offloaded onto "someone". Someone who, in the best case, feels useful doing this type of work. In the worst case - simply cannot tell the task-delegator where to go.
