Travel Diary. Day 9. The Magnificent Royal Palace Real Alcázar de Sevilla and the Triana Quarter in Seville.

Two places that you absolutely must see if you have found yourself in Seville are the Real Alcázar palace with its magnificent garden, Moorish (medieval Muslim) patterned tiles and gilded decorations, as well as the old Roma quarter Triana on the peninsula in the central part of the city. It is probably this fusion of cultures that has always drawn me when thinking of Andalusia.

And yes, the colours of Andalusia have captivated me deeply. If Greece is associated with white buildings and vivid sky-blue tones, then Andalusia with white structures and a saturated egg-yolk yellow. Moreover, this is a complete contrast to the Latvian harmonious sense of colour. This maddening un-Latvianness in everything - the screaming colours, the loud voices, the showing off - is genuinely thrilling. This is not a land of sincere smiles and gentle touches or embraces - it is a paradise for visual people and a nightmare for auditory ones. It is clear that this land can only be savoured in portions, not all at once and not for long. It will bury you in its colour avalanche, trample you with its duende, and if it decides to keep you, it will never let you leave alive.
