Riga International Design Exhibition Design Isle 2015 and Baltic Furniture 2015
Today all roads for many led straight to Ķīpsala, where in the two halls of the exhibition centre the eyes could feast on the latest achievements of Latvian design, while next door one could explore the range on offer in furniture, sanitary ware, lighting, and other useful items for home and office.

In the design hall, the multifunctional design piece DUSIS caught our attention - suitable for sitting, lying down, or taking a brief rest. Judging by the accompanying images, it fits and looks good both at home and in a modern office space.
Exhibition visitors also had the opportunity to vote in person for the best packaging. My favourite, number 4 - the Valmiermuiža spirits label on a distinctive, elongated bottle that absolutely does not evoke associations with beer.
Among the more interesting objects: a star blanket on which, with the help of an app, one can each evening activate one of ten little stars that lights up and recites a poem. Also a spruce-needle typeface - letters and numerals set in pine needles. Drawing implements made from clay - chalk-like, in various fruit shapes, for drawing on a blackboard. Natural soaps (which could be viewed, smelled, and purchased - EUR 3 apiece) in unusual shapes - grape clusters, lemons, shells.
Many design objects are dominated by Latvian folk patterns, Lielvārde belt motifs, and stylised suns. But why say much more - better to see for yourself; here is a brief photo glimpse of both halls.
