Zaļais Maksis Flea Market
At the restaurant-pizzeria Zaļais Maksis today, all were warmly welcome who had something stuck at home - something one is fond of but can no longer find a real use for. Both flea market traders and simple Saturday afternoon enjoyers found here an excellent place for trading, relaxation, conversation in a relaxed atmosphere, music, and food.
The hosts of Zaļais Maksis had seen to a snack table, the supplies of which were periodically replenished with white wine poured into glasses, Užava beer, freshly sliced watermelon, muffins, nuts, and bacon buns. One could also order a warm main course from the menu. Some were enthusiastic about Zaļais Maksis's homemade ice cream; others chatted on the outdoor terrace and drew on a water pipe.
Later, artist Baiba also arrived from Lāču darbnīca with her creations, which were immediately noticed, handled, and some also purchased by those present. If at first the flea market items were only viewed from a distance, now a fair number of purchases followed - books, a Soviet-era water heater, shoes, brooches, and so on.
It must be said, the interior and atmosphere of Zaļais Maksis are made for a lounge mood. At least that is how I felt it today. On the wall - mood photographs by Ojārs and paintings by Agata Muze, which can also be purchased if any particularly speaks to you. On the ceiling - original blue-green lamps made from Riesling wine bottles. Kaspars, a musician from Liepāja, delighted those gathered with Latvian rock classics and pieces familiar and dear to all.
The event organisers Mārtiņš and Agnese whispered to us that a second such market could take place in August. So it will be time to get motivated and go through the boxes of belongings at home…
