Unfortunately, this autumn I didn't find the time to get my hands on those orange and palely muted autumn wonders - pumpkins - to make some beautiful decoration for the home. The little decorative pumpkins, gifted and brought from the countryside, are still sitting on the kitchen windowsill. But there is no shortage of decoration ideas. Here are a few. Perhaps they'll come in handy for you ;)
"He shared my photo!" - says a Facebook user. Your photograph (a human rights violation) or your painted painting (a copyright violation) or simply the image you spotted first in the whole jumble of visual information and shared (no violation from a contemporary standpoint)?
No person's life is insignificant; no one is superfluous or incapable of finding someone for whom they matter and are needed. The latter happens precisely when you are fully honest with yourself and concentrate not on licking the wounds life has carved but on what is happening around you, on the people beside you, on the goal that must be reached in order to reduce suffering and increase love for humanity.
Everyone who tends to have opinions certainly has one about the Constitutional preamble too. In broad strokes, the story is about whether power belongs to the people of Latvia or to Latvians. Looking through various opinions, I came across an article in which lawyers Jānis Pleps and Edgars Pastars share their thoughts and reach the conclusion that the idea of Latvian sovereignty is undesirable for Latvia.
We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent organisation of the event, the attendance, the modern lighting effects, and the live music backdrop, which always lends an event a certain charm. Since we had come to the event primarily as supporters of the dancers, we focused more on and captured on video and in photos the many and varied dance styles - Bollywood Indian dances, belly dances, flamenco, Gypsy dances, and break dance.
Last weekend, on 4–5 October, there was the wonderful opportunity to attend a two-day seminar by Irish coach Owen Fitzpatrick, "The Power of Influence", in Vilnius. The rhetoric strategy was compelling for its vivid examples drawn from politicians' speeches, in which the main source of influence over the audience is by no means the content of what is said, but rather how it is said.
Planning to attend the event taking place this year from 22 to 24 November at Ķīpsala - the 2nd Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Exhibition and Conference "RIGA COMM 2013", where Latvian manufacturers, traders and service providers will be able to learn about and try out the hottest ICT innovations from around the world.
More than 50 Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian and Russian ICT companies will participate in the "Riga Comm 2013" exhibition, presenting to industry professionals, company executives and other interested visitors interactive and innovative ICT solutions, business applications, IT outsourcing, security solutions, telecommunication products, internet and mobile marketing services and more.
"Let us stop pretending that we have no feelings or emotions! I am talking about the root, about understanding - what we ourselves think and feel. Then we will be able to find those who think and feel similarly. That is tomorrow." - so said Inese, speaking about the future belonging to "emotional" products.
Lately, the public information space has increasingly seen cases where, for one reason or another, a payment by bank card - or merely the fact that a user holds a bank card - has managed to produce more than one surprise. Although, guided by common sense and bank advertising, the impression has formed that paying by bank card is safe, in reality, as recent events show, there is a very real possibility of ending up without money.
A Facebook post caught my attention about interesting topics to be discussed at Researchers' Night in the University of Latvia Central Building this Friday evening and late into the night. But the programme of events is much broader and takes place in various locations across Latvia and beyond.
In brief: on 27 September 2013 from 18:00 to 23:00, the annual Researchers' Night will take place for the seventh time, with this year's theme being "Water". Events take place in 35 countries and 300 European cities, including nine Latvian cities - Riga, Jelgava, Daugavpils, Rēzekne, Ventspils, Valmiera, Salaspils, Liepāja and Cēsis. All Latvian universities are involved, as well as some museums and companies.
The plan is to attend events specifically at the Faculty of Theology on Raiņa bulvāris 19 (19:00–23:00). Sub-theme - Water and Mathematics.
