Kristīne Luīze Avotiņa's Dream River
A multimedia exhibition consisting of 9 large screens on which 100 paintings by Kristīne Luīze Avotiņa are projected in a set sequence, with 10 different musical fragments played to create the mood. A colour, sound, and light show repeated every 20 minutes, allowing one to experience four different moods, places in the world, seasons, and variations of tone.
A multimedia exhibition consisting of 9 large screens on which 100 paintings by Kristīne Luīze Avotiņa are projected in a set sequence, with 10 different musical fragments played to create the mood. Only ten days (01.12.–10.12.2015.) at Riga Art Space. Ten days beloved by visitors and popular with audiences - on the Sunday, upon entering through the outer door, we were met by a fairly sizeable queue.
The colour, sound, and light show repeated every 20 minutes, allowing one to experience four different moods, places in the world, seasons, and variations of tone. It seems the majority of viewers stayed to watch at least 2–3 such "shows", because the format is genuinely very engaging, accessible, and appealing in its emotional range.
Four stopping points in the paintings' themes - Paris, Barcelona, Bali, Latvia & Liezere. And many, many different flowers, butterfly wings, small creatures, and one bird that is especially important to us - the penguin.
Many, including us, carried away from the exhibition a captured fragment of a colourful dream. But more important was the feeling on leaving the space - as if you were holding in your hands a large, barely-embraceable bouquet of summer flowers: patterned, vivid, fragrant, and in sharp contrast with the wintry grey of the city evening.
Thank you to the artist and the entire creative team for the experience of letting oneself drift in the flow of the dream river!
