Home Style: Study
This time, about a study in a house or apartment - where, in my view, the longest stretches of time are spent. At least definitely in our home. :) Before we tackled the renovation and fitting out of the study a couple of years ago, we formulated a few criteria that were important to both of us.
For this article series I was inspired by joxas' (creator of meitenem.lv) attempt to compile mood-based bedroom roundups using design photos from the website - http://www.livingetc.com/
This time, about a study in a house or apartment - where, in my view, the longest stretches of time are spent. At least definitely in our home. :) Before we tackled the renovation and fitting out of the study a couple of years ago, we formulated a few criteria that were important to both of us.
Important to him -
• a large desk, so that everything needed close to hand could fit on it;
• a large window, but one where the sun wouldn't shine directly and interfere with working at the computer;
• a comfortable chair, as a veeery long time is spent at the computer.
Important to me -
• lots of light - no heavy curtains or drapes at all; lightweight blinds close to the glass would be preferable;
• open shelves for books and document folders, spacious and easy to browse;
• natural wood or its imitation, light, cheerful colours.
We designed our own study more according to our own instincts than by style magazines. We also had to take into account the limited space and the family budget. If those last two factors hadn't been the deciding ones, we would probably have gone with one of these options.

This option has practically everything one needs - plenty of light, a comfortable chair, everything close to hand including a phone, a coffee mug, and a document shelf. What's appealing is that the room's space is cleverly saved by using the wide windowsill, accented in a rich light green.

The advantage of this design - open shelves - original and functional. White and olive green make a good combination.

If only everything in life were as ideal and white - but why not, why not swap the office chair on wheels for an enormous exercise ball.
