DJ Ötzi - The Most Popular German-Language Artist in Europe

DJ Ötzi, real name Gerhard Friedle, was born on 7 January 1971 in St. Johann in the Tyrol region of Austria. He is the son of DJ Anton Friedle; he spent his childhood in foster care and later was looked after by his grandmother. He trained as a chef. In 1995 his musical talent was discovered as a karaoke singer and DJ, having worked in clubs in Austria, Mallorca, and Turkey. This seems to have served him well in lending dynamism, joie de vivre, and dance music rhythm to every subsequent song he performs.

His rapid career ascent began in 2000 with the release of his first album. DJ Ötzi's songs and singles "Anton aus Tirol" and "Hey Baby" were already at the top of European music charts.

In 2001 he married music manager Sonja Kien, and a year later their daughter Lisa-Marie was born - named after Elvis Presley's daughter. A couple of years of steady work followed without any chart-smashing hits.

In 2006 the single "7 Sünden" was released, once again conquering the top positions in the music charts. In 2007 a platinum album and a stellar hour came to DJ Ötzi with the new album, fittingly titled "Sternstunden" (Star Hours). He set a Guinness record by signing 4,000 autographs on copies of this popular album. The single "Ein Stern (...der deinen Namen trägt)" resounded across all of Europe.

The most recent album "Hotel Engel" saw the light of day in autumn 2008. Today, 16 million CDs with DJ Ötzi's recordings have been sold worldwide.
