Who Starred in the Film "Criminal Excellence Foundation" (2018)
This holiday we visited Forum Cinemas for the first time in a long while, to sample the recently released detective comedy "Criminal Excellence Foundation." The film's funds were raised through a crowdfunding campaign and it features no professional actors. Despite all of this, the film turned out professional and enjoyable. The role performers are colourful characters, so I wanted to learn more about them. It turns out information in official sources is rather sparse - I had to gather evidence like a detective across the whole wide web.
So then, let us see what came of it all. I apologise in advance if any factual inaccuracy has crept in. The illustrations use stills from the film.
So then, the lead performer - Lauris Kļaviņš, in the film Imants Veide, who writes the plot for a crime novel and together with his mate Harijs Kuharjonoks (played by Andris Daugaviņš, more about him shortly) tries out various fraud scenarios. They are helped with ideas and props by the con men Duļķis and Aļģe, while "valuable" advice comes from Mister Vintage.
In real life Lauris is a PR professional. He worked for nearly seven years as a spokesperson for Baltcom, then for the Latvian Chess Federation, as a communications person at the glass design object company "an&angel" in Riga, and is currently a PR and marketing specialist at a cement-bonded wood wool board factory in Jaunlaicene, Alūksne district.
He lives in Riga. He was possibly also born, raised and educated here. He completed the Pāvuls Jurjāns music school.
He describes himself online as an enthusiastic and passionate communicator with a flexible and creative approach to problem-solving and the dissemination or adaptation of public messages. He is also known on social networks by the handle "Laurenss."
Andris Daugaviņš (in the film Harijs Kuharjonoks) is a lawyer, insolvency process administrator, and member of the board of the Latvian Certified Insolvency Process Administrators Association.
Born 7 April 1966. In his portrayal one could sense a kindred Aries nature. :) Apparently born in Riga, studied at Riga Secondary School No. 3, then at the University of Latvia. Apparently married, son Kristaps.
A motorsport enthusiast and traveller. In the summer of 2017 he embarked on a journey across all of Russia with three restored "Latvija" minibuses, retracing the 1977 expedition Liepāja–Vladivostok.
In one media interview Andris commented: "I am an old-fashioned person who doesn't like social networks. But once, at one point, my friend created a profile for me on Facebook. I am not, however, an active user - I only occasionally post photo galleries from my road trips."
Running in parallel with Imants and Harijs's attempts to break into Riga's criminal circles, another story unfolds with the quite colourful character of Imants's neighbour, whose little dog Pupsiks has gone missing (not without the aforementioned characters' involvement), and who conducts her own private investigation. The neighbour is played by Jana Rubīna - in real life a marketing manager at All Media Baltics.
Born 24 February in Riga, studied at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia. Married.
Ah, how hair colour changes a woman's appearance - from a gentle blonde to a feisty old battleaxe.

Information about one of the film's con men, Duļķis, is fairly easy to find, as a page has also been created on Wikipedia. Māris Mičerevskis, born 21 September 1982, studied at Riga Secondary School No. 85, then at the Riga French Lycée, and later at the Faculty of History and Philosophy of the University of Latvia.
He has published several articles on ethnography. Board member of the Association for the Study and Popularisation of History. Ran in the 2017 municipal elections from the combined list of the Latvian Regional Association and the party "Latvijas attīstībai" (For Latvia's Development). Member of the Riga City Council. Author of the children's book "Seven Days in the Kingdom of Miltins."
Co-owner of the solar energy company "Solar Up." He knows how to speak (in a good sense) not only in cinema but also on his social media profiles, LinkedIn included. On his Twitter profile he appears in a mask and has stated: "The views expressed in this profile are not necessarily those of anyone." Interesting - for what purpose was this profile created, then?!
