A Homemade Colourful Bunting Garland

Bunting garlands like these make me think of fairs or festivals in cobblestoned or maple-lined old-town squares, where on weekends there is bustle and trade, live music plays, the air smells of cinnamon, lollipops and freshly baked bread. The traders' pop-up stalls are bathed in sunshine. People in such an atmosphere become especially talkative, smiley and friendly, as if all the everyday worries had somehow quietly slipped away.

Inspired by the current holiday season, I made a simple bunting garland this morning - designed specifically for hanging outdoors, so the wind can flutter it, a light rain won't damage it, and it will delight the eye and attract attention.

To make it you will need:

  • linen twine;
  • decorative adhesive tape or colourful electrical tape (the latter is simply cheaper and more durable);
  • scissors.

Alternately wrap colourful strips of tape around the linen twine, then cut flag shapes with scissors. For a more delicate garland, you can also cut out small triangles. At the rope ends, tie bows which logically conclude the garland and look quite charming.

Wishing everyone a lovely holiday!
