Did you know that on the grounds of the Riga Centre for Narcology and Psychiatry there is a square-shaped pond and a sculpture called "The Shattered Soul"? Did you suspect that a "Rīga" washing machine - once the sole helper for our mothers in doing the laundry - is on display in a place of honour at the RER Museum? Can you imagine that Aldaris will soon be not just a brewery, but a place to enjoy beer and good live music?
As it turned out, the Twitter community took to this bit of fun - or Twitter flashmob - quite eagerly, resulting in the creation of several hundred altered movie titles. Some witty, some funny, some not so amusing.
We deliberately chose five days of rest in Palanga before the summer season started, to avoid the large tourist crowds and spend time in a tranquil mood. The pedestrian street - J. Basanavičiaus gatve - was still adorned with large decorative eggs. One of them was entirely covered with small pieces of amber. Bear in mind that the town is fairly small and oriented primarily towards tourism.
Today, 1 May at 15:00, several environmental design and improvement features were unveiled in Alekša Square in Sarkandaugava. The square is now dressed in red and features board game areas, a ping-pong table, bicycle parking, benches, and an outdoor exercise area. A place for walks, relaxation, and sporting activities.
As of today, I have become a girl with a sun tattoo. The idea came to me suddenly when my colleagues asked whether there was a special wish for something I'd like to receive as a birthday gift. I had a clear sense of the sun image very quickly, but spent a long time searching online before I found the right sun, which I carefully traced with a black marker pen onto white paper, adding shadows to give it a touch of individuality.
This will be a purely girls' conversation (guys, sorry) - the kind where friends settle in comfortably at the dressing table and start pulling out their cosmetics cases or bags to share their experience of which beauty product is a real find. Here are a few cosmetics products that I find good enough in quality to talk about and even recommend to others.
Planeta restaurant has given thought to three important criteria - attentive service (the guest feels expected and is not left unattended for a single moment), the interior and lighting to create the right atmosphere, and food presentation that resembles a miniature work of art. Flavour nuances are a very subjective matter, but those who appreciate European-Japanese cuisine will love it.
We decided to spend today outdoors in nature. The sun was pleasantly warm, the thermometer climbed to +10°C at midday, and not a trace of snow. Although at Pier A at Mangaļsala we did find a few relics - melting chunks of ice. Since the vegetation had not yet grown dense enough to obstruct us, and we could see where we put our feet, we explored the coastal defence artillery casemates and viewed the artillery shell vaults.
Responding to an invitation, this evening I headed to the new bistro in Riga's city centre. After an hour of watching an opening event that just couldn't seem to get going, and later listening to talk about the bistro concept while studying the gathered crowd, I simply could not get a feel for the place's concept. What exactly did its creators want to "say", and above all - who is their target audience?
