Creations from Buttons

This time about an everyday and seemingly insignificant little thing - a button. What can't be made from the various sizes and colours of buttons accumulated in a tin! Today I made a simple bracelet from five old buttons. Below is the making process + another 50 ideas from the web for various creations from buttons.

Previously I wrote about how useful an ordinary cork can be - left over from, say, a celebratory champagne bottle - and this time it is about an equally everyday and seemingly insignificant little thing: a button. What can't be made from the various sizes and colours of buttons accumulated in a tin?!

Today I made a simple bracelet from five old buttons. The making process follows.

Required:
• 5 buttons;
• black thread with a needle;
• beads (black, white);
• fabric scraps (greyish, black-and-white);
• wire, clasp;
• awl, pliers.

Making steps.

Step 1.
Cut five circles from various fabric scraps, slightly larger than the buttons.

Step 2.
Sew the fabric around the buttons.

Step 3.
Join all the fabric-covered buttons together with wire, threading a few glass beads in black or white onto the wire between each button.

Step 4.
Thread a few more beads onto the wire ends, then secure the ends and attach the clasp.

I was invited to share this idea in the magazine "Praktiskais Latvietis" - here is the article in the December 2012 issue >>>
